Getting Organized

Do you go to work, maintain a family, home, etc. all in one day's job??  Here's some tips to help keep you organized!

Tips:

No-sweat. Start your day the organized way.

Do you use a snooze alarm? What a way to start your day. You are procrastinating already!

Make the bed as soon as you get up-one less thing to worry about later. (Takes only 1-2 minutes of your time.) Enjoy the "look" when you walk into your bedroom at the end of the day.

Do you spend precious minutes staring at the clothes in your closet? Plan your wardrobe the night before. Put your head on the pillow. Envision your closet. Decided what to wear the next day. (Of course this assumes that your closet is organized, and you can envision what is in it.)

Is there time to do what you like to do in the morning…exercise, bathe, groom, quiet cup of coffee, etc.? Get up thirty minutes before the rest of the family.

Consider setting the breakfast table, getting the coffeepot ready, or starting a load of wash the night before. (Schedule certain days of the week to wash clothing, linens, towels, etc. Do not get bogged down washing every day of the week.)

Do you know what is on your agenda for the day? Refine and review the night before, or early AM you if prefer.

Do you know where you put the keys to the car and house? Designate a specific place for these items, and place them there EVERYTIME. Makes for easy retrieval.

Form good habits. Create a routine of the tasks above for you and your family. This will put you in a better frame of mind for the rest of the day.

Everything needs a home. The choices are (1) trash, (2) donate, (3) keep it and decide it’s new address. That’s it. You don’t have to be a superhero and organize everything in a day. If you get discouraged, just take a break. . .and give yourself credit for the amazing progress you’re making, one day at a time.

TIPS FOR YOUR HOME AND LIFE

Schedule time to organize

Work for a limited, scheduled period of time to avoid burnout

Create reasonable to-do lists - Daily, Weekly, and Projects. Unrealistic deadlines discourage rather than motivate

Think of traffic patterns and habits when deciding where to store things

If you haven't used or worn it in a year, and it's not an heirloom - DONATE!

Get a refrigerator calendar for family schedules to avoid last minute running around

Create a home for incoming mail, where you can review and sort it immediately

Some clutter is really long-term or seasonal storage. Get the appropriate storage container, label it, and store it
