ABDOMINAL PAIN OR PELVIC PAIN Abdominal pain is pain that is felt in the abdomen. Your abdomen extends from below your chest to your groin. Some people call it the stomach, but your abdomen contains many other important organs. Pain in the abdomen can come from any one of them. The pain may start somewhere else, such as your chest. Severe pain doesn't always mean a serious problem. Nor does mild pain mean a problem is not serious. The abdomen is an anatomical area that is bounded by the lower margin of the ribs above, the pelvic bone (pubic ramus) below, and the flanks on each side. Abdominal Pain Cause Abdominal pain is caused by inflammation (e.g., appendicitis, diverticulitis, colitis ), by stretching or distention of an organ (e.g., obstruction of the intestine, blockage of a bile duct by gallstones, swelling of the liver with hepatitis), or by loss of the supply of blood to an organ (e.g., ischemic colitis). Infection spreads upward from the cervix to the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and surrounding structures. For most women, menstrual periods are a simple fact of life. But for women who suffer from heavy bleeding, called menorrhagia, there is nothing simple about it. Heavy periods can be uncomfortable and disruptive to many women's lives, as they often cause women to rearrange their schedules around their period, limit participation in favorite activities, constantly wear dark clothing, and/or cope with pain and fatigue. The breasts are made of fat, glands, and connective (fibrous) tissue. The breast has several lobes, which are divided into lobules and end in the milk glands. Menopause is a natural biological process, not a medical illness.
