Liberty News

The band has changed its name to Liberty X after a lawsuit was brought against it by another band which had the name first!

Liberty are from the UK and took part in the same Popstars show as Hear'say, but they were not the 'winners'. However, they formed their own band and got a recording contract after the show, and are now doing quite well for themselves. I don't know how much talent there is in the band, but they have moved away from the kiddy-pop of Hear-say to create their own individual sound and image, and you have to give them credit for that.

The Band

There are five members of the band; two guys and three girls, just like Hear'say. They are Michelle, Kevin, Kelli, Tony, and Jessica. Kelli seems to be the lead singer, and I think she has the best voice of the group. The group had a top 10 hit in the UK, and their style is supposed to resemble urban/garage music more than pop. I don't know why they decided to call themselves Liberty! But they've had to change their name to Liberty X following a law suit brought against them by an old band (that no one has heard of for years), because apparently this band had the name first.

The Music

Liberty's first single, 'Thinking it over', was not too bad at all. It follows the tuneless UK garage style that's pretty popular at the moment, but it's a fairly good song. I could do without the stupid spelling, though. I think we all know how to spell 'liberty'. Maybe they are trying to act a bit too cool, but it's working for them to an extent. They are definitely more cool than Hear'say. Their first single did quite well in the UK too, which is good to see. Liberty seem a lot more credible than Hear'say, and so I hope they have a bit of success for that reason alone! Liberty have a new song too, and it's called 'Doin' it'. It sounds okay, but not great. The band describe it as 'pop with an edge', and I think I'd have to agree with that. Liberty aren't doing bad things, so hopefully they'll stick around for a while
