Domino |
Real Name: Unknown Powers: Domino's mutant ability appears to be some kind of psionic control over probability, thus causing her to have "good luck" and her opponents to have "bad luck." History: Very little is known about the early life of the woman now known as Domino. Even her original, given name is shrouded in mystery. What is known is that she has had a long and distinguished career in many fields of covert activity, both as an agent of various organizations and governments, and as a freelance mercenary. In one of her earliest recorded exploits, Domino was assigned to bodyguard a man named Milo Thurman, a genius prodigy in predicting world events and shifts in the balance of power between governments, from terrorists interested in his abilities. In the course of this assignment, she and Thurman fell in love. It was Thurman who coined her nickname "Domino" (referring to her white skin and black dot around her left eye), which became her longtime codename. He also called her Beatrice, after a character in his favorite book, Dante's Inferno, and she continues to use that alias today in her plainclothes identity. Thurman and Domino's relationship, however, was destined to be short-lived, as a raid by the subversive organization AIM on the government facility where Thurman was being held forced Thurman into even deeper government cover. His government superiors told Thurman that Domino was dead. An unspecified amount of time later, Domino joined the mercenary group called the Six Pack. It was here that she met the man known as Cable, and developed the beginning of a long and intimate friendship with him. One of the clients of the Six Pack was an arms dealer named Tolliver, who was actually Cable's estranged (and time-displaced) son Tyler. Several months later, Cable gathered together a group of young, disenfranchised mutant heroes to form the strike team called X-Force. A woman purporting to be Domino helped Cable found the team, and participated on several missions with them. In actuality, the real Domino had been taken prisoner months before by Tolliver, as part of a vendetta against his father, Cable. Tolliver hired a mutant shapeshifter named Vanessa Carlyle, a.k.a. Copycat, to infiltrate X-Force. The members of X-Force discovered "Domino's" treachery, but not before Copycat managed to cause the destruction of X-Force's first base. Cable himself freed Domino from her captivity on Tolliver's estate, and through a series of trials and tribulations, Domino and Cable became, in effect for the first time, co-leaders of X-Force. Domino remains in her capacity as X-Force's co-leader. Recently, Milo Thurman, who still believed Domino to be dead, and was still in government custody, was taken hostage by Donald Pierce and Lady Deathstrike, who intended to siphon away Thurman's uncanny instincts and knowledge of world trends for Pierce's own purposes. Domino found out about the abduction, and tracked Thurman and the Reavers to Pierce's new base in the old "Weapon X" project in Canada. Domino defeated Pierce and Deathstrike, and laid waste to Pierce's base, but was unable to save Thurman in time from the fatal effects of Pierce's information transfer process. Pierce has apparently managed to siphon off at least a portion of Thurman's strategic brilliance into his cybernetic memory banks, but to what extent remains to be seen. |
