Real Name: Jennifer Walters

Powers: She-Hulk possesses superhuman strength and can press at least 75 tons. She continues training to lift even greater weights, and the uppermost limit of her potential remains unknown. Unlike the Hulk, She-Hulk cannot assume her human form, due to further gamma-ray exposure. However, she retains her normal intelligence and personality. By and large, She-Hulk is impervious to injury, pain and disease: Her skin is able to withstand extremes of temperature, as well as tremendous stresses and impacts without puncture wounds or lacerations. She-Hulk's highly efficient physiology renders her immune to all terrestrial diseases.

History: Jennifer Walters is the first cousin of Dr. Robert Bruce Banner -- the meek scientist transformed by gamma radiation into the mean, green engine of mass destruction known as the Incredible Hulk. As a child, Jennifer frequently spent summer vacations with her mother's relatives, the Banners. Despite a five-year age difference, she and Bruce became as close as brother and sister. The two saw less of each other as they pursued separate careers: Banner medicine, Walters law. Although they corresponded briefly, the cousins lost track of each other when Bruce left medical school in his second year to study nuclear physics. After he began work on the military's top-secret gamma bomb, Bruce cut off contact with all family members for reasons of national security. Meanwhile, Jennifer graduated from law school with high honors and established a successful criminal-law practice in Los Angeles.

Years later, Bruce visited Jennifer to re-establish contact with his childhood friend -- and confide in her the emotional trauma of his double life as a rampaging man-beast. Jennifer had been defending a criminal named Lou Monkton, framed by gangster Nicholas Trask for the murder of his bodyguard. As she drove Bruce to her Los Angeles home, one of Trask's henchmen made an attempt on her life. With his cousin rapidly losing blood from a gunshot wound, Bruce improvised an emergency transfusion, knowing he and Jennifer shared the same type. As soon as it was evident that Jennifer would survive, Bruce fled for fear that he would become the Hulk in the midst of all the chaos.

The effect on Jennifer of Bruce's gamma-mutated blood first manifested when Trask's men infiltrated her hospital room posing as doctors. Jennifer recognized them, and her anger triggered her transformation into a superhumanly strong female version of the Hulk. Retaining Jennifer's intelligence, She-Hulk visited retribution on Trask's organization.

Unlike her cousin, Jennifer derived great satisfaction from her adventures as She-Hulk. Although able to revert to human form at will, she rarely did so. It has been speculated that gamma-induced mutations such as the Hulk's unleash a suppressed aspect of the affected individual's personality. Bruce's repressed rage emerged as a savage, childlike persona, while Jennifer shed her inhibitions.

Answering a call to action of the highest order, Jennifer reluctantly left California to join the collection of costumed champions called the Avengers. As one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, She-Hulk stood shoulder to shoulder in defense of humanity with the likes of Captain America, star-spangled Super Soldier; Thor, Norse God of Thunder; and Iron Man, the armored alter ego of billionaire Tony Stark. When the orange-colored, thick-skinned Thing took a leave of absence from the fabled family of superhuman adventurers known as the Fantastic Four, he named She-Hulk as his replacement.

Exposed to the mutagenic effects of intense radiation while shutting down an atomic pile that had reached critical mass, She-Hulk found herself unable to revert to human form. Undaunted, Jennifer continued to practice law.

When the planet's greatest heroes were thought to have died doing battle with the sentient psionic menace known as Onslaught, She-Hulk joined Heroes for Hire Inc., a clearinghouse for freelance superhuman operatives. The agency had merged with Oracle Inc. -- the corporation owned by Prince Namor, the Atlantean Sub-Mariner -- to protect the world from danger...for a price. A close bond had begun to form between She-Hulk and the founder of Heroes for Hire -- tough-as-nails brawler Luke Cage, a.k.a. Power Man -- when the team disbanded.

She-Hulk returned to her law practice, but remains eager to trade her power suits for skintight spandex and bash bad guys when called upon by the Fantastic Four or Avengers.
