In the team's first recorded exploit, they were hired by an evil tyrant of an alternate Earth, Opul Lun Sat-yr-nyn-- an otherdimensional counterpart of the Omniversal ruler Opal Luna Saturnyne. The Technet was ordered to hunt down and bring back Byron Bra-Dhok, alias Kaptain Briton, the otherdimensional counterpart to the mainstream Earth's hero, Captain Britain. Kaptain Briton had fled to Captain Britain's Earth, fought Captain Britain, and switched costumes with him, thereby deceiving the pursuing Technet, who then mistakenly took Captain Britain prisoner. The Technet brought Captain Britain to Sat-yr-nyn's Earth. There, Captain Britain convinced the Technet that he was not the man they had been hired to capture, and the Technet joined Captain Britain in battling the angry Sat-yr-nyn's troops. Captain Britain returned to his own Earth, where his sister, Psylocke, had killed Kaptain Briton when he attempted to assault her. Later, the Technet traveled on business to the dimension known as the Wereworlds, whose natives, unknown to the Technet, become werewolves under a full moon. The team was caught after dark by several werewolves, and one of their number, Elmo, was killed. Although the team was aided in their escape by the privateers called the Berserker Pirates, Gatecrasher seriously injured or killed a member of the pirates after he attempted to interest her in becoming his lover. The pirate's family forced the Technet to turn over all their accumulated wealth as repartition. Angered by this reversal in their fortunes, all of the members of the Technet except for Yap and Fascination (later, Scatterbrain) left the team. Gatecrasher was then contacted by whom she thought was the despot of the world of Kandahar to procure a perfect mathematical model of the universe that was made of rock crystal and that was held and revered by the Incas of 14th century Peru on Captain Britain's Earth. Gatecrasher, Yap, and Fascination journeyed through time to obtain the model, but Gatecrasher and Yap were tricked by the person they believed the native high priest into consuming fruit filled with the eggs of deadly parasites. Gatecrasher and Yap were thus forced to remain under a cooling waterfall to prevent the eggs inside them from hatching and consuming their bodies from within. In actuality, an alien had impersonated both the despot of Kandahar and the high priest, and hoped to force Gatecrasher into his employ through this convoluted plot. This alien had already succeeded in hiring the members of the Technet who had just left the group. Fascination brought Captain Britain and his companion Meggan to 14th century Peru to rescue Gatecrasher. Captain Britain gathered together the plants necessary to create the antidote that would kill the parasite eggs. Gatecrasher and Yap consumed the antidote, and then they, Fascination, Captain Britain, and Meggan returned to their own time period. Gatecrasher eventually recruited new members into the Technet, and a few former members rejoined. At some point during this period, Fascination changed her name to Scatterbrain. Opal Luna Saturnyne hired the Technet to capture Rachel Summers, then known as the hero Phoenix, whom Saturnyne claimed was a threat to the universe. Summers, Captain Britain, Meggan, and Summers' former teammates in the X-Men, Nightcrawler and Shadowcat, fought off the Technet, who then retreated. This battle against the Technet led directly to the formation of the hero team called Excalibur by Summers and her allies. The Technet was exiled to Earth until they could complete their assignment. The team established headquarters on a peir in the English seacoast city of Brighton, hoping to eventually make good on their assignment. In the meantime, they were contacted by Opul Lun Sat-yr-nyn, who had been deposed from her world and escaped imprisonment by assuming the identity of Captain Britain's former girlfriend, Courtney Ross. Sat-yr-nyn had the Technet rescue Captain Britain's brother, Jaimie Braddock, from the clutches of the vigilante Doctor Crocodile. Later, Gatecrasher attempted a final capture of Phoenix by creating the creature dubbed Hard Boiled Henry, a small android chick placed in an egg and used as a time bomb to surprise Excalibur. The ploy worked, and the Technet would have succeeded in defeating the team if not for agents of Opal Luna Saturnyn, who rescinded the order to catpure the Phoenix. Furthermore, she declared the Technet's exile to be extended indefinately, under the termination clause of their contract. Angered by their exile, the Technet mutinied from Gatecrasher's leadership, and she and Yap teleported away to an unknown location. The remaining members of the Technet asked for a truce with Excalibur, offering to repair their lighthouse headquarters that was damaged in their battle in exchange for lodging. During this time, various members of Excalibur scattered to pursue individual interests, and in order to uncover a string of robberies, Nightcrawler helped form the members of the Technet into a coherent team to stop the villain, a monster controlled by the mystic Necrom. Almost immediately after their success, the Technet were confronted by mercenaries resembling a version of the team known as the Special Executive. The Technet, with their new associate Dragon and her offspring, joined with the new team, leaving Earth. Their subsequent activities remain to be revealed. |
