WATER'S EDGE

Water's edge wavelets advance and recede;
breaking, rushing, frothing, flooding damp sand
as small boy,  searching the  carpet of shells
exposed by the receding, rippling waves;
smiles to find the revealed treasure he seeks.

Sand-filled, pink shell, washed, sand-emptied and raised
to small pink ear, brings to his eager mind
pictures of long buried pirate treasure
beneath palm trees, swaying on the island
where breaks the surf he hears in his pink shell.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS!

As Odysseus discovered,
and Shakespeare reaffirmed,
'tis one thing or another
which has to be confirmed.

When outrageous fortune
demands a choice be made,
do you veer towards the whirlpool
or steer closer to the cave?

The whirlpool of Charybdis will engulf
the ship that sails too close,
while six-headed Scylla, in her cave,
can seize six of the crew at most.

So sail on, on this sea of troubles,
prove that you're not fools.
Make your decision wisely,
don't fall between two stools.
