Left fielder Frank Robinson rocketed 4 homeruns and Chuck Stobbs went 4 strong
innings as the Chicago AL White Sox outscored the Kansas City Athletics 10 to
1.
Robinson was a source of great heartache for the Kansas City faithful all
evening. He just kept pounding out hits! He lofted a three-run bomb in the
1st inning, delivered a solo blast in the 3rd inning, depressed the partisan
hometown fans with a grand slam home run in the 4th inning, banged out a
single in the 6th inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 8th of the season)
in the 8th inning. Chicago AL finished with 15 hits while Kansas City ended
up with 6.
Johnny Podres(2-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 5 innings. Stobbs earned
his 1st save. Billy Pierce(1-1) was hit with the loss. He served up 3
gopher balls in 5 innings.
Robinson said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate
tonight. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can. A couple
pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'
