Wilbur Cooper(10-16) thrilled the fans at Robison Field as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The St. Louis Cardinals won by a
final score of 1 to 0.

Cooper was spectacular. He allowed Pittsburgh just one walk. The St. Louis
players and coaches started to leave Cooper alone with his thoughts after the
game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you
could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion
after every out. St. Louis had only 4 hits for the game.

Al Demaree(7-11) took the loss. He allowed just 1 run and 4 hits in 8
innings. Cooper was in a jubilant mood after the game. 'If I'd known I was
going to throw a no hitter I would have gotten a haircut!' he said, much to
the delight of the clubhouse gathering.
