History was made in St. Louis as Jim Perry(7-2) tossed a no-hitter and the
Kansas City Athletics defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 9 to
0.
Although disappointed to see the hometown team lose, the fans certainly were
appropriately impressed with the dominating, no-hit performance of Perry. He
walked 2 St. Louis batters. The tension started to build around the 6th
inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was electrified. Kansas City had a
total of 14 hits for the game.
Don Lee(4-4) was hit with the loss. He allowed 2 runs and 4 hits in 5 and 1/3
innings. After the game, Perry was heard to say, 'This is something I have
dreamt about since I was a little boy - to have it come true is just
amazing!'
