Herb Score(15-14) was on top of his game in Brooklyn as he tossed a beauty of
a no-hitter against the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Detroit Tigers won by a score
of 5 to 0.
Score had an afternoon to remember. He walked 11 Brooklyn batters. The
Detroit players and coaches started to leave Score alone with his thoughts
after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled
around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an
explosion after every out. Detroit rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon.
Tom Poholsky(4-14) was hit with the loss. He was touched for 9 hits and 2
walks in 4 and 1/3 innings. 'Score pitched one heck of a game!' Stan said.
'He didn't get away with any bad pitches because he just didn't throw any bad
pitches. What a performance!'
