Paul Splittorff(6-10) thrilled the fans at Wrigley Field as he crafted a
no-hit masterpiece against the Chicago NL Cubs. The St. Louis Cardinals won
by a final score of 1 to 0.

Splittorff had his best stuff and was 'painting the black' with every pitch.
A beautiful game to watch. He had excellent control, walking only one. The
St. Louis players and coaches started to leave Splittorff alone with his
thoughts after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning
rolled around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up -
and an explosion after every out. The Chicago NL bats were silent in the
bottom of the 9th.

Chris Short(3-13) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 2
walks in 7 innings. After the game, Splittorff was heard to say, 'This is
something I have dreamt about since I was a little boy - to have it come true
is just amazing!'
