Clyde Wright(1-3) was on top of his game in California as he tossed a beauty
of a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians. The California Angels won by a
score of 7 to 0.
Wright had overwhelming stuff tonight. He simply never gave the Cleveland
batters a decent pitch to drive. He walked 2 Cleveland batters. What an
evening for the fans. They were on the edge of their seats from the 7th
inning on. With every out, the electricity in the air mounted. California
finished with 14 hits in the victory.
Don Gullett(1-1) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 9 hits and 1 walk in
5 innings. When asked how his stuff was out there, Wright looked a bit
incredulous (as did this reporter) and replied 'A bit better than average,
I'd have to say'
