History was made in Philadelphia NL as Steve Carlton(14-8) thrilled the crowd
by tossing a perfect game and the San Francisco Giants defeated the
Philadelphia NL Phillies by the score of 1 to nothing.
Carlton was just too much for Philadelphia NL. The tension started to build
around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was electrified. San
Francisco had just 5 hits for the night.
Mike McCormick(15-11) absorbed the loss. He pitched 9 innings and surrendered
just 5 hits and 1 walk. When asked how his stuff was out there, Carlton
looked a bit incredulous (as did this reporter) and replied 'A bit better
than average, I'd have to say'
