I am the Systems Administrator at a woodworking plant. If you've been out on a plant floor at all, you know that equipment gets dusty and dirty, especially at woodworking plants. Computers are no exception, but did you ever wonder about what gets inside them?
On 05/14/2002, Ben (Systems Administrator at a "sister" plant 15 miles away) and I opened up a PC that had been brought into the IT area after being out in the plant's maintenance department for almost 4 years, undisturbed in the same location. Inside, everything was coated with an nearly unbroken covering of dust. A dust-covered spider web festooned one side (we didn't look to see if there was a dust-covered spider carcass, but there may have been). Before blowing the dust out of it, we decided this sight had to be preserved, so we borrowed a digital camera to take pictures. The photos are by Ben.

The PC is a PII, HP Vectra VE 6/266 Series 8 DT. It still runs well, with no apparent problems. We blew the dust out of it, installed Linux, and use it as a test box.
