Did anyone benefit under China's modified COP?

According to posters on cgn.net, China evaluates the women's competitions under a modified code: an E skill on bars, or a D skill on beam and floor that is not in the current FIG code would receive a 0.1 bonus.

The natural question comes--did anyone receive such a bonus?

The only gymnast who has been verified doing a new skill is Kang Xin, who has been doing a new dismount on bars since 2001. However, the difficulty of her new dismount is a judgement call between D and E. No judge has confirmed any bonus given to any gymnast in the 2002 Nationals.

The new national champion on floor, Huang Jing, did a double layout and a triple twist. Although both of these skills are rated E on floor, they already exsit in the FIG COP. Huang did not receive any bonus for doing these difficult skills.

Yang Yun, the champion on vault, displayed her beautiful layout Cuervo and a decent 1.5 Yeurchenko at the EF. Yang Yun has grown a lot since Sydney. She is taller, stronger, but also a bit over-weight. Her weight and her palm injury have prevented her from training new skills on the uneven bars.

Nationals versus National Games

The gymnastic Nationals in China is held every year, usually in May. The National Games, is a multi-sports national Olympics held every four years. Clubs and gymnasts are rewarded bonuses, houses, and commercial opportunities for getting good results at National Games. On the other hand, the nationals are mainly used to refresh the status of each gymnast, and often as part of a qualification for Worlds/Olympics and other important competitions.

This year the nationals will be held in Kunming, Yunnan from June 15th to June 22nd. It will serve as part of the qualification for the Asian Games.
