The inevitable battle.... The WWF (World Wreslting Federation) was formed in the 1960's by Vince MacMahon Sr. It was called the WWWF(World Wide Wrestling Federation). The WWF was a combination of many of the regional promotions from the Northeast, Canada, Midwest, and Atlantic Coast regions. Much like the NWA which was a combination of promotions from the Southeast, Midwest, and Southwest. The WWF was a much different animal than the perverted ratings hungry beast it has become today. In the beginning there were no weird personalities (cross-dressers, sexual deviants, etc.), there were only tough men who fought hard matches. In the early 1980's when Vince MacMahon Jr. took charge of the WWF he began to turn the WWF into what it has become today, sports-entertainment. He did this by building elaborate story lines that would prove to enthrall the crowd, that has begun to pack coliseums and arenas in every large market in the U.S., adults. When it was started, the basis of it was centered around Hulk Hogan. The match where he fought the WWF Champion at the time, The Iron Shiek (who was an Olympic champion at the time) is arguably the most known match of all-time. Hogan won and held the title for quite some time, a few years in fact. The WWF had exploded into a media giant, and the wrestlinmg world had begun to take the world by storm. But during the early 90s, things changed. Ted Turner bought out the National Wrestling Alliance and formed WCW or World Championship Wrestling. This new organization quickly started to gain respect from wrestling fans because the WWFs programming quality had deteriorated without competition. And in 1994, WCW acquired wrestling's biggest name, Hulk Hogan. Their ratings began to go higher than the WWFs, and they were selling more merchandise. With Hogan's acquisition, others began to flock to WCW. Macho Man Randy Savage, Lex Luger, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and even Bret Hart. WCW's introduction of the New World Order or the nWo would soon prove to be the factor that propelled WCW above the WWF. WCW had taken over, and the WWF was left to pick up the pieces. How did they do that? By completely changing their image, and all that was due to one man - Stone Cold Steve Austin. With Austin's arrival, fans began cheering for him rather than booing him, as was intended. The WWF noticed this and quickly took action. Gone were the days where the 'good guys' would fight the 'bad guys', now you had the bad guys being cheered by the fans and the good guys became cocky and arrogant and that pleased the fans. The WWF underwent a transition phase with new stars such as Austin, The Rock, Triple H, and the rebellious group known as D-Generation-X. It wasn't long before the WWF took control of the indusry. By 2001, Vince McMahon Jr. had bought WCW and had therefore taken full control of the entire mainstream industry of professional wrestling. In late 2002, from the dual minds of Kevin Paiva and Andrew ferreria came Net Championship Wrestling. An efed run by both men and enjoyed by friends of the two, either personal or those met online. NCW was ran privately and served as a way for Paiva and Ferreria to use their own ideas into a wrestling federation rather than critisizing those of the WWF (at this time known as the WWE). NCW had its ups and downs throughout the months, even shutting down in October, only to rise again in November of that year. NCW flourished and became what it is today - one of the most popular efeds on the internet. The WWE and NCW both continued to run respective and unravelled their own drama's throughout the months to come. But at all times, there was always one person out there who would fantasize the 'what if' confrontation between WWE and NCW wrestlers. That 'what if' is now out the door, as the confrontation is now coming to the forefront. On June 19th, 2004, for the first time ever, WWE Superstars will battle NCW Netstars in what is destined to be one of the most memorable nights in history. Matches that fans only dreamed about are now becoming a reality. The battle of the two phenoms, Morbid and Undertaker. The fight between two of the most athletic men in both companies, Zach Stiller and Shawn Michaels. And even a confrontation between arguably the two greatest men in their respective companies, Triple H and Matt Xtreme. Whatever the outcome of this night, it will forever be remembered as a night where legacies are born out of competition. The true leaders of men will rise when all the smoke is cleared, and those who fail to accomplish victory, will forever be plunged with the emotion...of hostility. |
