One of the most
common ailments we see
in wind up or weight driven clocks is a clock that is out of beat. What
does it mean to be out of beat?
When the beat is set correctly and the clock is sitting level the tics
should be evenly spaced. If the clock is out of beat you will hear a
rhythm like this.
tic tic tic tic tic tic tic tic tic tic as opposed to this if the clock is in beat tic tic tic tic tic tic tic tic. Some times it is just a matter of straightening the clock on the wall or making sure the surface it is sitting on is level. Other times the beat might be set slightly off level so in order to be in beat you will need to tip the clock horizontally one way or the other until the tics are evenly spaced. If when you tip the clock the ticks become more uneven the you need to tip it the other direction until the tics are even. If the beat is way off or even a little off and it really bothers you that the clock has to sit a few degrees off plumb to be in beat we can electronically set the time and the beat to a high degree of accuracy.
