Cardiff: August 2002 - Part 2
|
|
|
Special! These two "Limited Stop"
pages are due for withdrawal on 8 September 2002!
This is Part 2 of a glimpse at Cardiff's buses - other operators than
Cardiff Bus.
Part 1 is on Cardiff Bus

In spite of orange and white buses in the
background on Wood Street, in contrast to the once common Ailsa
double deck at the bottom of Part 1, this picture of Shamrock's low
floor bus on service X5 to Aberdare emerging from Cardiff Bus
Station would not have been common in Cardiff 20 years ago!
Shamrock, billing itself as South Wales' no.1 independent operator,
is concentrated in Pontypridd but this service shows that Shamrock's
network spreads widely

With famous and not-so-famous antecedents such as Red & White,
National Welsh, Western Welsh, Rhondda Buses and others, Stagecoach
operates country services into Cardiff using mainly a variety of
Darts from the valleys to the north and north east of Cardiff,
Caerphilly, Pontypridd and the former Gwent county, including to
Blackwood, below
First operates to the east of Cardiff on extensive bus services to
and from Bridgend. This vehicle, in First's corporate livery, was
registered locally, although Bridgend has seen a number of ex-London
Darts allocated to it
Even with the number of First's Barbie-liveried vehicles, it is
still possible to see near-traditional style liveries working in to
Cardiff on the Swansea shuttle and local buses to and from Bridgend.
With its recently-established Assembly and development of Cardiff
bay, Cardiff is a growing capital city with increasing numbers of
visitors. Both Guide Friday and City Sightseeing recognise this,
although now part of the same company, provide open top sightseeing
tours. This Guide Friday vehicle happens to be ex-Cardiff City
