![]() A view of Fort Charles, one of the two forts that protected the entrance to Kingston Harbour during the days of the pirates. The other fort is across the harbour. Fort Charles was badly damaged by the earthquake that sank three quarters of the city. |
![]() Another view of Fort Charles. It is being developed as a tourist attraction. One of the features of Fort Charles is the "Giddy House", a participially sunken army barracks. This causes the barracks to tilt at a fairly steep angle causing you to feel like you are drunk or giddy. |
![]() One of the few churches operating in Port Royal today. In the days of Captain Henry Morgan, every street had at least two churches on each side and would be found between a bar and whore house. |

Although the government is trying to develop Port Royal as a tourist resort town, there are not many job opportunities here yet. Port Royal has a lot of potential as a tourist resort town because of the historical sites there both above water and below water. For details of the redevelopment of Port Royal visit the Port Royal Development Project web site. Port Royal is also the jumping off point for day trips to Lime Cay and Maiden Cay, two sand bars or very small islands just out side of Kingston Harbour. |
Coming soon!!!A day trip to Morgan's Harbour Hotel, a former slave market originally owned by Captain Henry Morgan, Lime Cay the largest Cay or sand bar just outside of Kingston Harbour. and Maiden Cay another sand bar outside Kingston Harbour. |
