Card Advantage

Back

Card advantage has one simple concept; having cards. The more cards you have, the more of a card advantage you are said to have.

Card advantage can be obtained in various ways. The most simple and popular way of obtaining card advantage in Pot of Greed. You lose one card (PoG) and gain two. This is said to be a 1-2 card. Graceful charity is a 1-1 card (Lose three gain three) but allows you to choose your cards, so effectivly gives you card advantage. Sangan is a 1-1 card also, but gives you the advantage of field presence etc.

The second way of gaining card advantage is by desroying your opponent's cards. By using heavy storm on two of his Traps, you lose 1 card and he loses 2, so you gain card advantage. A great way to improve your deck is to look for card-advantage-positive cards.

I've come to learn over my years in Duel Monsters that life points, especially near the start of the game, hardly matter at all compared to card advantage. Most games are won by the opponent's field being cleared and having a massive 4-star attack. It is said, even, that a player starting with 2000LP and 6 cards will win a player with 10000LP and 3 cards using the same deck.

While not all cards need to give card advantage to be good (Magic Cylinder, though you could argue this saves one of your own cards sometimes), it is one of the most important factors in winning a duel.

Look out for those CA cards in the future!
