Divine Madness

Back

Oh crap. Deleted the Beatdown page...

Divine Madness, along with being the name for a rather good book, is the title of my new article. Guess what it's about. That's right; divines.

In case you're wondering what divines are, they're certain shadow cards that are generally overpowered compared to other cards. The full list of divines: Seal of Orichalcos, Obelisk The Tormentor, The Winged Dragon of Ra, Slifer The Sky Dragon, Claw of Helmos, Fang of Critias and Eye of Timaeus. The three lords are often called divines, but they aren't listed as them and I have no proof that they are.

Actually, the inspiration for this article was a shadow tag team tourney duel I had recently. I had 7000 LP, and had mirror force, imperial order, face down cyber jar and a ATK-position Magician of Faith on the field; I'd just recycled graceful charity. The opponents, who will remain nameless, sprung Obelisk The Tormentor, sacrificed two monsters, and attacked for 7700 damage. Now, I relise there are countless other combos that could achieve a similar effect, but I had the strongest trap defence in the game down. Divines render most usual cards obsolete, which is why I hate them so much.

Sure, the gods are possible to defeat; if I had not flipped MoF I probably would of won the match by card advantage.

Seal of Orichalcos, which is almost as OP as Obelisk, is my main pet peeve however. When two duelists are dueling with SoO in their deck and the same amount of cards, using beatdown decks, it's whoever draws SoO first wins. It adds to the already prominent luck factor in the game. Back when I played against divines, which I now refuse to do, I did manage to irritate countless opponents by use of a nifty Giant Trunade-Confiscation combo, but I've been defeated almsot as many times by the card itself.

Hopefully I've convinced at least 1 more person away from the luck factor and onto the strategy factor (I'd argue almost as strongly for the most powerful staples being banned; they hold back creativity in decks) in Duel Monsters.
