Stellar Cartography
This galactic map is from the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual
- Alpha Quadrant- [Lower left-hand quarter] Within the Alpha Quadrant is the bulk of the United Federation of Planets. The core star systems of the Federation, including the Sol System, are located in Alpha Quadrant. To the left of the Federation is the Cardassian Union, recently liberated from the Dominion. Bordering the Cardassian Union is the Bajoran System, location of the Bajoran Wormhole, which provides a shortcut to the Gamma Quadrant. Also in the Alpha Quadrant are the territories of the Talarians and the Breen Confederacy. The Ferengi Alliance, with its capital planet Ferenginar, is also adjacent to the Cardassian Union.
- Beta Quadrant- [Lower right-hand quarter] Although the Federation spills over marginally into this quadrant, it is dominated by the Romulan Star Empire and the Klingon Empire. Not much is known about the further reaches of this quadrant, as Federation ships rarely pass beyond the Romulan and Klingon borders.
- Gamma Quadrant- [Upper left-hand quarter] A large part of this area is ruled by the Dominion, a group of conquered species run by the Founders. Because of the hostilities between the Dominion and most of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant political entities, exploration of the Gamma Quadrant has been extremely limited. The Bajoran Wormhole has its terminus in this quadrant, near the Idran System.
- Delta Quadrant- [Upper right-hand quarter] The Delta Quadrant was until recently a complete mystery. However, when the Federation starship Voyager was pulled into this quadrant and later made contact with Starfleet after many years of travel, the secrets of the Delta Quadrant began to be revealed. Home to the Borg Collective, this area has proven very dangerous. Also located in this quadrant are the Kazon Order, the Vidiian Sodality, the Krenim Imperium, and the Hirogen. Voyager has crossed a considerable distance across the Delta Quadrant and has gathered detailed information about many of its cultures and natural phenomena.
