While traveling across the countryside, Gabrielle challenges a very pregnant and somewhat cranky Xena to get through a whole day without losing her temper. Xena and Joxer head into town while Gabrielle goes to wash the horses. Much to her surprise, when she pours spring water over Argo, the horse shrinks to thirty-eight inches tall! Lachrymose, the god of despair who owns the creek, refuses to return Argo to original size unless Gabrielle can make him laugh. Gabrielle recounts many humorous situations, but is unable to get a reaction out of Lachrymose. Meanwhile, over lunch with a howling baby in the background, Xena recalls some of the strange and dangerous things she's encountered and wonders what her child will see in the future. Gabrielle tries to bait Lachrymose into making Argo normal again, but her plan backfires and she herself ends up twelve inches high! While shopping at the store, Joxer sees the mini-duo and promises to help. Joxer manages to trick Lachrymose into restoring Gabrielle to her original size, but Xena's whistle to her faithful horse sends the animal galloping off, still in petite form. Xena's anger turns into a huge pie fight in which even a group of priests is involved. After Lachrymose gets hit with a pie, he begins to laugh and Argo is returned to normal. Gabrielle loses her bet with Xena and is faced with cooking, cleaning and back rubs for a month!
