History of Yau Kung Moon The Yau Kung Moon style has its origins dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 ADE) in the Sil Lum Temple, Honan province. The style was developed by a Buddhist monk, Ding Yang. Because of his humble nature, he did not name the style. This martial arts style was selectively passed onto one disciple per generation among the Temple residents through the Ching Dynasty (1644 - 1911 ADE). During the rise of the Ching Dynasty (Manchu), Ming supporters found refuge in temples. The Ching emperor ordered the destruction of temples to prevent the Ming Dynasty (Chinese) restoration-- Sil Lum Temple was not spared. Many monks were killed or fled for their lives. One surviving monk was Doe Sung. He was the principal disciple of Yau Kung Moon and the chosen Temple representative to meet all challengers. After the style passed down many generations, a monk, Teat Yun, coined the name-- Yau Kung Moon "The Sect of Flexible Power." He also accepted the first lay person to be a disciple of Yau Kung Moon, Grandmaster HA Han Hong. |
