Jinyou　人妖 -
Humans, but with unhuman-like abilities and sometimes unhuman-like appearance. They are the descendants of Youkais from long time ago who had decided to live on in the human society and thus had took human spouses. The special abilities the jinyous have are a result of their youkai blood that they had inherited from their yokai ancestors (thus the nature of the abilities are also determined by their ancestors). The appearance of jinyous has been documented to be after WWII, and has been discovered at a steady rate until the present day.

The kanji for Jinyou is (人妖), first one meaning "Man" and the second one meaning "Demon" (this kanji is the same as the one in （妖怪）"Youkai", which is referring to the supernatural beings in Japanese and Chinese mythology and doesn't always mean "demon" literally). Putting the two kanji together, it'll roughly mean, "a Human youkai".

Trivia: the kanji for Jinyou, if read in the Chinese context, would be a term used to describe a trasverstite. ---

Jinyoubyou　人妖病 -
Lit. "Jinyou disease". The official name is ASSHS (Acquired Systemic Special Heredity varaiety degeneration Syndrome), and is referring to the condition in which the humans are exhibiting traits of being a Jinyou. But the general population refers to it as the jinyou disease due to the fact that the sufferer of this will exhibit strange abilities that are reminiscent of the mythological youkais in legends. The term Jinyou has also stuck since and the government is at least somewhat tolerant about the usage of it.

Ayakashi　妖 -
The kanji is (妖), which is the same as the (妖) in (妖怪)Youkai. Ayakashi is a general term used to refer to youkais. In the story, Ayakashi is used to refer to the pure-blood youkais that are still existing in the present day.

Kamizawa Gakuen 神沢学園 -
"Kamizawa School". One of the schools in Kamizawa city. As expected from a jinyou city, the students and staffs of the school are all jinyous. There is a rule that no students are allowed to use their jinyou abilities in the school. Failing to adhere to the rule will result in the expulsion of the said student. Thus, Kamizawa School is one of the places where the activities are made to be no more different from a normal school that is outside, allowing newcomers to the city (especially youngsters) to more easily adapt to life in Kamizawa city. Kamizawa School is also famous for its student council(see Kamizawa Gakuen Seitokai).

Kamizawa Gakuen Seitokai 神沢学園生徒会 -
Kamizawa School Student Council. A student body in the Kamizawa School that handles administrative matters of the school and provides assistances to new students to adapt to their new life. They are the only organisation in the school that is not affected by the restrictions on ability usage. In other words, they are permitted to use their jinyou abilities as they see fit in order to facilitate their work. As such, the student council is also seen as the disciplinary prefects of the school. The Seitoukai Kaichou (Student Council President) has the privilege of being the only student in the school to be able to wear a white gakuran(male school uniform) as opposed to the normal black gakuran of other students.

Kelp/Cherubim　智天使薬（ケルプ） -
An abusable drug that is spread among the civilians of Kamizawa city. It is special in that the drug affects only jinyous.

Bujutsu　武術 -
"Martial Arts". In the story, there are many people who uses unarmed combat. Out of them, we get to know three styles that are frequently mentioned.

Kuki Ryuu　九鬼流 -	Created by Kuki Youkou from the basis of a Chinese martial arts style Enkaken(). The original style is created as an anti-youkai style (humans using it to stand a chance against the youkais), while Kuki Ryuu modifies it to be more suited for use against Jinyous. The style emphasizes on circular strikes and counterattacks (parrying and then retaliating). As youkais or jinyous have different body properties, some as hard as rock, some as soft as jelly, someone using a fist to punch them could very well hurt his knuckle or find that the force of his strike being cushioned. Thus, Kuki Ryuu gave up using the fist in favour of the palm. A palm strike could channel its force into the body, whether it's hard or soft. Kuku Ryuu has a collection of "Yon Dai Zessho" (四大絶招　the four Main Killing Moves), each with its usage and application: 1) Homura Neji 焔螺子(Flame Screw) - the user twists his arm and strikes the opponent while unwinding his arm. When the palm strikes, the user will deliver a second blow by continuing to twist his arm in the same direction of the unwinding. This twisting action adds to the destructive power of what is supposed to be a mere palm strike. 2) Homura Kiri 焔錐(Flame Chisel) - The user uses his fingers and attacks the weak spot of the enemy. Employing enough force, the user can pierce through the weak point and impale the enemy one his hands. 3) Homura Enma 焔閻魔(Flame Enma - Enma is referring to the claws of the claw hammer)- The user will support himself on his hands and deliver an upward kick to the enemies' jaw. 4)Homura Tsui 焔槌(Flame Hammer) - In close quarters, the user will close in within hugging range of the enemy and deliver an elbow to the back of the enemy's head. So far, only 2 person in the world knows the Kuki Ryuu: Kuki Youkou the master and Kisaragi Soushichi the pupil.
Yata-Raiten Ryuu　八咫雷天流	The style used by Karasu-Tengu and Kato Koutarou. Yata-Raiten Ryuu (lit. Yata Thunder Heaven style. Yata is referring to the name of Yatagarasu) is a style originally used by the tengu youkais to defend themselves against the assaults of humans. Youkais, while strong individually, can be overwhelmed by humans in large numbers, especially if they're carrying weapons, so Yata-Raiten Ryuu is actually a style focusing on fighting One vs Many using lighting-fast strikes with one's fists. Notable moves are: 1) Hajiki 弾き- A chop to the neck to render the opponent unconscious. By varying the strength of the chop, the length of unconsciousness can be altered to certain degree. 2) Hararabana 散華- The basic move that emphasize on having a large number of attacks. By keeping the strength of the blows to the lowest degree that is allowed, the user increases the number of blows made, preventing the opponent from ever having the chance of executing a counterattack. 3) Tsubute 飛礫- Having the same emphasis on a large number of attacks like the Hararabana, but the user increases the strength of each blow to the point of disabling. This is used in a one vs many situation so the user can knock down and disable each opponent with just one hit. 4) Ito Kumo 糸蜘蛛- The user grabs the wrist of an opponent's outstretched hand after a punch, and hit the elbow with his fist, thus breaking the opponent's joint. 5) Hakurou 白狼 (White Wolf)- By focusing the whole body's strength, the user releases a single strongest and fastest attack. The origin of the name is the myth that old white furred wolves are said to be the transformed form of Tengus (葉天狗).
Ichinotani Ryuu　一乃谷流	The sword style used by the Ichinotani family for slaying of youkais utilizing the Ichinotani family heirloom long katana. As the Ichinotani family has descended from the Ushioni, they possesses better strength than a normal people. This is useful in wielding the giant katana that is used in conjunction with the style. Notable moves are: 1)Kirigitsune 霧狐- 2)Hebigarami 蛇絡- 3)Hagane shishi 鋼獅子- 4)Ittou Hitosaya 一刀一鞘-

Komorijima & Orisaki byouin 琥森島＆織咲病院-
Komori island - The island which Suzu was sent to by Shizu. A unexpectedly large island, with more than half of the land area being taken up by heavy forest. Even with a huge hospital being built while avoiding the forest, there are still ample space left.

Orisaki hospital - A facility based on Komori Island that is built to house the patients (jinyous) that are determined to be dangerous to the society. Among the patients, it is said that the forest is cursed, and nobody will approach it of their own will. With accidents happening while clearing the forest (chainsaw's chain snapping etc), the staff is more or less forced to agree with the rumour and has avoided the forest as much as possible.

Kanfyuru カンフュール-
Canhur. The Piercing Sword Umbrella 貫剣傘. A hybrid of an umbrella and an estock(a piercing weapon). It boasts of exceptional weight. Made by Kuki, who felt that there is a limit to what one can parry using only barehands, made Canhur as his melee weapon outside of Kuki Ryuu. The material used for the umbrella is bulletproof, and is able to withstand shots from handguns and shotguns. Canhur is the name of a unicorn-like beast that is said to be found in the Molucca Island (Indonesia?). It is said that the single horn on the beast's head has antidote properties.

Ayakashibito あやかしびと-
If a jinyou (人妖) is a human with the abilities of a youkai, then a ayakashibito (あやかしびと／妖人) is the opposite - a youkai with the heart of a human. They're aware that they are different from humans, yet they still love humans and wishes to live as like them.
