Itinerary

Day 1 – August 3

9:30 a.m.

  • Gather at Tim Hortons (16th & Woodbine Ave.)

    10:00 - 1:00 a.m.

  • Heading off to Algonquin Park
  • Meeting Du's Family at McDonald (exit 90)
  • Lunch break at service centre

    1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

  • Driving to the camp site

    2:30 - 4:00 p.m.

  • Check-in and Set up camp site

    4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

  • Afternoon tea/coffee break - Prepared by Zhang's Family

    5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

  • Dinner – Prepared by Chung's Family

    8:30 p.m. - Evening Program Outdoor Theatre, at km 35.4(Optional)

  • Films – The Winter Camp (about the old pine loggers), and Wild by Nature : Beauty and the Beasts
  • Slide Talk – Algonquin’s Deer and Moose – Visitors associate deer with Algonquin, but 200 years ago the Park had few or none. Logging and forest fires allowed deer to become abundant, but now they are scarce again while moose flourish. This talk tells their story here.

    Day 2 – August 4

  • Film – Trout Stream
  • Slide Talk – Canoe Tripping in Algonquin – There is only one way to see the real Algonquin Park—by canoe. This talk will introduce you to the incomparable experience of canoe tripping in the Park’s vast Interior. Come and learn how to plan a trip, paddle and portage correctly, and how a real canoeist respects Algonquin’s canoe country.

    Day 3- August 5

  • Films – Boreal Forest : Fall and Winter, and Wild by Nature : The Howls of August (about wolves in Algonquin)
  • Slide Talk – Explosions and Death Traps – From the explosive seed dispersal of jewelweed to insect-eating pitcher plants, Algonquin abounds in spectacular wildflowers. Often, however, we are so struck by their beauty that we overlook how truly amazing they really are. Come and learn about the fascinating and hidden world of Algonquin’s wildflowers.

  • 2:00 p.m. – Wildflower Walk – Outdoor Theatre parking lot, at km 35.4
  • 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. – Canoe Lessons (ORCA) – Tea Lake Campground beach, at km 11.4
