Swim Unit Attire: Female Students - one piece swimsuit - tankini - two piece swimsuit with shirt (spaghetti straps ok) - board shorts and rash guards ok Male Students - board shorts or athletic shorts - rash guards ok -speedo No denim No metal fasteners No metal zippers Swim Caps: All students with hair below the shoulders (when wet) will need to tie their hair up or wear a swim cap. Swim caps will be provided if needed. Locker room: Students need to keep the locker rooms clean. Pick up all trash and belongings. Students may use the lockers during class time only. All locks must be removed at the end of the period. Security: Students are advised to keep all valuables in their sight at all times or locked in a locker. Students may carry belongings out to the pool deck during class time. Report all thefts to the instructor. Holding Area: When students leave the locker room after class they must remain in the pool complex. Do not leave class until released by the instructors or the passing bell rings. Students leaving class early will be assigned detention hours. Absences/Parent Excuses/Dr. Excuses: All policies are described in the PE Handbook - Students who have a medical excuse that prevents him/her from swimming will be placed in the other PE section during the swim unit. A doctor's note is required. - Students who miss swim days due to parent notes must make up these days following the normal make-up policy. No Gum, Beverages (except water), or food in the locker rooms or pool deck 9th Grade Curriculum First Swim Unit (beginning of school year) - backstroke - freestyle - breaststroke - learn how to use the clock for workouts Second Swim Unit (after Spring Break) - review strokes - swim workouts using clock and incorporating all strokes -diving (off of blocks or edge of pool) - intro to water polo 10th Grade Curriculum First Swim Unit - review backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke - review how to use the clock and complete a workout - basic diving - introduce the butterfly - introduce water polo Second Swim Unit - Water Polo |
