California State Physical Fitness Test
Students are required to take 2 years of physical education unless they do not pass the physical fitness test.  All Students are required to pass 5 out of the 6 elements of the physical fitness test in order to be granted an exemption from taking 4 years of physical education.  Students are tested in the Spring.  The following tests are given:
1.  mile run
2.  curl-ups (sit-ups)
3.  push-ups
4.  body mass index (height and weight)
5.  trunk lift
6.  flexibility (shoulder stretch/sit and reach)

If a 9th grade student passes 5 out of the 6 components of the physical fitness test, the student will be exempt from taking PE during the junior and senior years.
If a 9th grade student does not pass 5 out of the 6 components of the physical fitness test, the student will be re-tested during the sophomore year.  If the student does not pass the physical fitness test during the sophomore year, the student will be enrolled in PE the Junior year and retested during the year.  If the student passes the test the junior year, he/she will be exempt from taking further Physical Educaiton.  If the student does not pass the test, the student will be enrolled in physical education the senior year.
