WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1. To develop an understanding of rules, concepts, and strategies of various physical activities. 2. To develop physical and social skills that allow personal fulfillment in leisure time. 3. To develop an awareness of the importance of physical well-being 4. To provide the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities with the intent to find areas of leisure enjoyment. 5. To demonstrate cardio endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and appropriate body composition by scoring in the healthy fitness zones on all five components of the California Physical Fitness Assessment. 6. To demonstrate comprehension of the benefits of life long wellness by designing a personal fitness plan |

Units Each unit may require assignments that will cover the rules and concepts of the activity. Personal Wellness/Fitness Plan The Wellness/ Fitness Plan is a two part project. The first part will be completed during the 9th grade year. The second part will be completed during the 10th grade year. This is a project designed to help students develop fitness goals for life-long wellness. This total fitness plan is broken up into various assignments which will be graded separately. These assignments will be placed on the YHS PE Website. www.oocities.org/yhspe. Students are required to go to this website for their assignments. If students do not have computer access at home, there are computers on campus for use by students. These assignments can be printed out by students and taken home to work on. They do not require extended computer/internet research. |

It is the philosophy of the Physical Education Department to promote healthy lifestyles through a comprehensive physical education program. We strive to focus on the physical, mental, emotional, and social welfare of each student with the end result being each student recognizing and striving for life long wellness. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
PHYSICAL EDUCATION ATTIRE | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Plain gray t-shirt Navy athletic shorts (5 inch inseam) Tennis Shoes Plain Gray or Navy sweats/sweatshirts. Stripes or piping along the arms and legs are accepted. PE clothes may be purchased at Millers Mountain Sports in the Raleys Shopping Center OR students may purchase their own PE attire at any clothing store. The shorts must have an elastic waist and allow for mobility. The shirts may be short or long sleeved. Tank tops are not allowed. During the swim unit female students must wear a one-piece swimsuit or a two piece swimsuit with a shirt (spaghetti straps ok). Board shorts and rash guards also ok. Male students may wear speedos, board shorts, or athletic shorts. Belts and/or metal fasteners or zippers are not allowed |

ATHLETES - GAME DAY | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
DAILY POINTS | Other than for special circumstances, all athletes are required to dress out and participate on game day. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Students earn points daily toward their unit grades by: - being on time and in correct attire - active participation during the entire class period - demonstrating good sportsmanship and respect toward others in the class. |

TARDIES | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tardies will result in detention as well as adversely effect the student's grade. The locker room doors are locked 8 minutes after the late bell rings. Students will not be allowed in the locker room after this time. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
MEDICAL EXCUSES | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Parents may excuse you from participating up to three times per semester by writing the instructor a note stipulating the number of days (up to three). You are still required to dress out unless otherwise specified in the note or at teacher's discretion.
