Here, are some great thought provoking riddles that I've come across and read from a message board which I'm a member of. I'm not much of a riddle solver but I thought these were too clever to pass up! (To find the answer to each riddle, highlight the area under it with your mouse.)

I am birthed from darkness and sewn into light. I last for many years and am taken for granted by all who have me. When men lose me many do weep, but soon get over the grief. I end in a bright flash of my own being and then return to darkness. What am I?


Answer: Life

What is higher than God and more evil than the devil? What do poor people have that rich people don't want? If you eat it, you die. What am I?

Answer: Nothing

One day, a wife shot her husband, drowned him, and then hung him out to dry. That evening, she and her husband went out to dinner. What happened?

Answer: She shot him with a camera.

There is a man that is sentenced to die through one of three doors, and he can choose which door to go through. The first door holds several assassins, the second door holds a big fire and the last door contains lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. You can bet they're awfully hungry. Which door is the safest for the man?

Answer: The last door

A bus driver is picking up people on his daily rounds. People get on the bus at various stops. Nobody got off. By the end of the day, not a single person was on the bus. How is it possible?

Answer: All the people on the bus were married.

A man while looking at a photograph said, "Brothers and sisters have I none. That man's father is my father's son." Who was the person in the photograph?

Answer: The man’s son

A man wanted to enter an exclusive club but did not know the password that was required. He waited by the door and listened. A club member knocked on the door and the doorman said, "twelve." The member replied, "six" and was let in. A second member came to the door and the doorman said, "six." The member replied, "three" and was let in. The man thought he had heard enough and walked up to the door. The doorman said, "ten" and the man replied, "five." But he was not let in. What should he have said?

Answer: It's three, the number of letters in ten.

I have four wings, but cannot fly, I never laugh and never cry; On the same spot I'm always found, toiling away with little sound. What am I?
