Lyme disease

SYMPTOMS
Symptoms are Flu-like, including head and muscle aches, stiff neck, fever and fatigue. In almost 70 % of cases there is a reddish ring-shaped rash expanding outward from the bite. The victim may become cranky and moody. Parts of the face may become paralyzed and joints can become painful and swollen.

TREATMENT
See your doctor, If the infection is caught early enough, oral antibiotics can eliminate symptoms. However, if the disease is left untreated and complication develop, intravenous antibiotics may be needed.


Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

SYMPTOMS
This illness sets in with flulike aches and pains, severe headache, high fever, chills, vomiting, and a general feeling of malaise. You will look and feel horrible. About a week later a bumpy reddish rash resembling Measles will appear around the wrists and ankles and may cover the entire body within a few hours.

TREATMENT
See a doctor right away. This disease can be fatal, but early detection and proper anti-biotics (The type will depend on the age of the victim) will cure the infection.

Ehrlichiosis-HME(Human monocytic) and HGE (Human granulocytic)

SYMPTOMS
For both strains of this illness, the victim will experience what appears to be a bad case of the flu,with sore muscles, headaches, chills, fever, and nausea.These symptoms normally occur one to three weeks after a tick bite, which may not be noticed. Infrequently, there's a rash, which has a red-dot or prickly appearance resembling heat rash.

TREATMENT
See your doctor immediately. Both HME and HGE require antibiotic treatment as soon as possible.


Colorado Tick Fever

SYMPTOMS
Usually there will be fever, bad headaches, and muscle aches followed by a period of lingering fatigue. Rarely, a faint rash (it will look like a small bruise) will appear and then disappear within a week.The symptoms may go away for a few days and then return.

TREATMENT
Call the doctor.This is a viral infection that will clear on its own, so antibiotics are not prescribed. Pain and fever-reducing medicines can help the victim feel better. (This is a less serious tick-borne illness.)


Tularemia(also known as rabbit fever)

SYMPTOMS
The main symptoms are sores that won't heal, accompanied by swollen lymph nodes near the sores. Also, look for repeated bouts of severe fever and red eyes.

TREATMENT
See a doctor. This disease is treated with antibiotics administered according to the severity of the case and the patient's age.


Relapsing fever

SYMPTOMS
This illness is characterized by a recurring fever. From 5 to 11 days after the infecting bite (which you may not notice}, the victim will develop a fever that can last for 2 to 9 days, go away, and then keep returning in this pattern. In addition to the fever, symptoms include headaches, chills, sweats, shaking, and muscle and joint pain.

TREATMENT
See a doctor.Treatment involves the use of different antibiotics depending on the age of your child.


Tick paralysis

SYMPTOMS
Shortly after being bitten, the victim will feel very sick, with symptoms including vomiting and headaches. Soon after, paralysis will begin, starting with the legs and then spreading upward.Tick paralysis is actually a severe allergic reaction, not an infection, and it's quite rare. Once paralysis starts, if the tick is not removed, death can occur

TREATMENT
Call 911 at the first sign of paralysis, and look for a tick (check the scalp and armpits). If found, take it out at once.The only treatment is remoal of the ticks which immediately halts the allergic paralysis.
