Marty, who was born in January of 1983 and grew up in the suburbs of Anchorage, Alaska, is the voice of a generation, unafraid to say what he wants, when he wants, or to who he wants. His first novel, Death to All Cheerleaders, was self-published with Infected Press when he was 17. He met his literary agent while living in Brookyln, who later got him a contract with MTV Books.
He has written several articles for Playboy, and one which the magazine turned down because it was "too risque".
Marty now lives in Washington, D.C. with his girlfriend, was an honors graduate from the American University, and hopes to visit Baghdad.
Marty's favorite book is Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky- he has had his picture taken with the author.
Another young authors he admires is Ned Vizzini, who he spent a summer living with in NYC. But Marty feels that "most young writers kind of suck. A 14-year-old has no perspective on his or her life. I don't think it's healthy for these authors, and I don't think it's healthy for the publishing world."
