Anti-Sweatshop Conference to be held August 2nd-5th
Youth for Socialist Action Editorial

The United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) will hold their national conference at Loyola University in Chicago on August 2nd-5th. An estimated 300-400 students will attend the confrence across the country. The conference will focus on building solidarity movements with labor struggles both here and abroad. Over the past few years, the Unites Students Against Sweatshops has grown into a labor solidarity organization with chapters on college campuses across the country. USAS was founded with the goal of eliminating sweatshop labor in the production of collegiate licensed clothing. Since then, USAS has moved toward domestic labor solidarity efforts. USAS has sent delegations to victimized Union textile workers in Western New York, participated in the unionization efforts at college cafeterias in New Orleans, sent delegations to numerous picket lines of striking workers, among other accomplishments. USAS and other radicalizing youth are beginning to see the power of labor in fighting injustices in a capitalist society. Youth for Socialist Action calls on the United Students Against Sweatshops to continue this turn toward domestic labor solidarity.
