Band Barbecue Quiz 2004

The quiz caused a bit of a palaver this year – not only did we want the right answers, but we wanted them in the right order as well!

Here is a list of the questions – the answers are shown further down the page…

  1. Teletubbies (in order of size)
  2. Signs of the zodiac (from 1st January)
  3. The colours of the different property groups in Monopoly (starting from ‘Go’)
  4. Planets in the solar system (in order of size)
  5. Actors who’ve played James Bond (in chronological order)
  6. Coins in circulation in the UK (in order of weight)
  7. Winners of the Premiership (in the order that they first won)
  8. King Henry VIII’s wives (in order of marriage)
  9. Books of the Jewish Torah (in the order that they appear in the Bible)
  10. English counties that border Wales (North to South)
  11. ABBA’s number one singles (in order of release)
  12. Contestants in this year’s big brother (in the order that they left the house)
  13. Numbers on a dartboard (clockwise from the top)
  14. Monarchs of the 20th century (in order of time spent on the throne during the 20th century)
  15. Pieces played by the Band at our annual concert this year (in the order that we played them)
  16. Key signatures shared by at least 8 carols in our carol books (most common first)

Surprisingly, no-one could remember what we played in our annual concert just 5 weeks ago! Other peculiarities included a dartboard with only 16 numbers (one of which was 21) and a list of teletubbies that read "Inn & Winkie, Sipty and Poo".

In the end, the team of Catryn, Wyn, Greg and Cadi were this year’s clear winners.

Here are the scores from the quiz (team names as written on the quiz sheets!)

Weakest Link 2004

We don’t have the detailed info that was available after the last Weakest Link game. The whole quiz wasn’t taped and the stats sheet was thrown away with the voting slips. Angharad’s un-Anne Robinsonesque questioning technique helped keep the prize fund low, as did the tactic of voting off last year’s winner first followed by all of the university students in quick succession. Strategy didn’t feature high on Nia’s list of priorities – between rounds, she asked: "What’s a liance"?! Aled and Nia contested the final round. Aled won the prize money (£6.80) by giving two correct answers to Nia’s one.

Players were voted off in this order: 1. Carwyn 2. Greg 3. Wyn 4. Cadi 5. Catryn 6. Christine 7. Emyr
