Sergeant Sheep
Investigates

"Not much of a turnout tonight", complained Alex.
"No", agreed Chas, pulling out a rather dog-eared folder from the bottom shelf of the cupboard.  They'd had the same conversation many times and he didn't feel inclined to ponder the subject of absent band members on this particular occasion.
At this point, the sound of raised voices could be heard, emanating Alex thought from just outside the bandroom.
"It's Helen and Katrina", observed Chas.  "They're at it again!"
"Honestly", said Alex, "I don't understand why people have to be so argumentative all the time.  Here I am trying to do my best to instil a sense of team spirit and all I get in return is half a band for rehearsals - and even then they don't get on with each other."
"It's just a bad night", Chas commented.  "The band always seems to take a while to settle back into a routine, even after the shortest of breaks.  Just think of the improvements there have been in recent months.  As for Katrina, she loves to be contrary.  Before the contest, she was complaining about the selection of music and critisising Rodney about his failure to organise a sectional rehearsal.  That argument went on for weeks!"
Thankfully, by this time the current argument between Katrina and Helen seemed to have ended.  In fact, there was a strange silence.  The usual congregation of people outside the library at this time of the night was non-existent and the usual sounds of conversation and people coming in and out could not be heard.  Alex and Chas continued to look for music for several minutes until they had decided on a suitable selection.  They went back to the rehearsal room where they discovered that the older band members had already returned to their seats.  Helen, Rodney and Peggy were standing by the notice board.  Alex went to the front door and yelled, "Right, come on then".  He came back and joined Chas who was handing out the music.
