Bunta is the father of Takumi and owner of a tofu shop in Akina. It looks like Bunta does not like his job and that he would rather be driving than doing this! Bunta is in fact the man who holds the fastest time on the Akina downhill. His driving skills are incredible and, without Takumi knowing, trained his son how to drive. He looks more asleep than Takumi because his eyes are closed all the time (which makes me wonder how he can do that). He also has a bad habit of smoking!
His relationship with Takumi isn't that strong. They barely talk to each other and sometimes, Bunta seems a little cold towards Takumi. There are times when Bunta does help his son with driving skills (ex. how many RPM's Takumi should switch gears before his race with Wataru) and often encourages him to win (well, not that often). Bunta changes the settings of the 86 before Takumi goes to a race, only if it's necessary (ex. the race against the 32 and FC) because he DOES want his son to win. So you can see a little encouragement somewhere in there.
Bunta is also good friends with Yuichi and a rival of Ken Kogashiwa (in his younger days). |
