In May 2001 several women from the University of Texas at San Antonio decided that they wanted to be a part of a women's group on campus that promoted all cultures, races and ethnicities. These women organized interest meetings and researched several multicultural sororities in the nation. On July 13th, 2001 the group, with reservations from several members, became a colony of an existing Multicultural Sorority. Throughout the colonization the members continued to build their bond of friendship as they began to recognize areas of that organization's system that did not represent who they were.  Yet, on November 3rd, 2001 the ladies became active  members.

As active members of this organization, the women were left alone and friendships between them and the organization were never developed.  The women encountered irreconcilable differences and humiliation for the complete duration of their relationship with the Illinois based organization.

In Fall 2002, the women revisited their individual purpose of being a part of a women's group. The women wanted to be part of a group that was concerned for the sisterhood of the members. It was important that members were not made subservient to those elected to build the organization.  Each member would stand firm and true to democracy and integrity. In January 2003 they then organized the Ladies for Diversity (LFD)  community service organization. This movement became the pivotal period for the birth of Zeta Chi Phi. The women held several meetings where  they discussed necessary changes and plans for a new process.  Finally on January 30th, 2003 the fledgling group from San Antonio, Texas formed what is now Zeta Chi Phi Multicultural Sorority.

They were determined to cleanse themselves and put forth a sincere commitment to diversity, democracy, integrity, education, loveliness and philanthropy.  The mascot, flower, stone and colors were selected to represent the women s past struggle, their rebirth as Zeta Chi Phi and the promise of a brighter future for all women.

Let it be forever known that Zeta Chi Phi represents women of virtue, strong character and profound intelligence. So, that all who are bestowed with our name continue to illuminate what is of our essence.

(History recorded by Founding Mother, Amirah Smith)

They later organized a Board of Directors who would assist with Zeta Chi Phi's purpose and functions.  Finally on February 10, 2003, Zeta Chi Phi became a non-profit corporation which will be now called Zeta Chi Phi Multicultural Sorority, Incorporated.
