| Turning away from the secular world, Long lived in his mountain retreat. He had been driven to hermitage by guilt over his participation in Tylon's evil deeds, and by his hate for zoeanthrope blood that had shaped his destiny. But the words of a visiting young woman awakend emotions in Long that he had suppressed for so long. "I need help rescuing my kidnapped mother," she pleaded. He was captivated by her determination to resist the cruelness of the world around her. Long taught her the martial arts while at the same time trying to break the chains around his own heart.
