Important notice Procedure to explore links, such as news links, dictionaries, exercises, etc. 1. Use the right button of your mouse to click on the name of the link. A new window will open. 2. Select "open in new window" ("openen in nieuw venster") and click the left button of your mouse. The link will open in a new window. If you are using Internet Explorer 7, you can also choose to open the link in a new tab ('openen in nieuw tabblad'). A new tab will open in the same window 3. Use the "maximaliseren" button at the top right of your screen to maximise the page. 4. Explore the link as much as you like. 5. To return to your class-site (Zonneheem_fvp), close the additional window with the closing button "x" at the top right or close the tab. |
1. NEWS a. Read and watch THE VRT NEWS IN ENGLISH b. Practise your vocabulary with the news in this challenging word game "Prognosticate ". Pick your favourite news topic of the day from CNN or the BBC. You can choose between : world news / politics / business / entertainment / science / technology / health / education. Then choose your level: - easy: when the news story stops, you must guess the next word, but you can pick your answer from a list of all the missing words from the story. At the end you get a score. And if you want, you can have a look at the complete article on CNN or on the BBC. - hard: you must decide the next word, but you get some help though. 2. DICTIONARIES a. Cambridge Dictionary: explanatory (English to English), with model example sentences. Excellent!. b. Onelook : explanatory, with links to other general and specialist (law, medicine, etc) dictionaries. Very interesting. c. The Free Dictionary: general and specialist English dictionary, thesaurus and encyclopeadia with lots of links. The home page includes a small vocabulary quiz (new every day - answer and see the result immediately), a new article every day, the quote and word of the day. d. Picture Dictionary: Russian website covering 103 items. Basic English. Click on the number with the left button of the mouse and you get the English word of the selected item. If you click the right button, you get the Russian translation. You never know when this might prove useful to you. |
