Your Stats are very important! They basically define what you can and can not do!
I use these calculations to determine what is what. I made these calcs up myself. I am divulging a big secret here, so be grateful to know exactly how it works. Remember, though, that Monks have many changes (in their favor) to their calcs! If you know a better way to calc something, then by all means
E-mail me. In order to calculate something random, I take Hit% and use Irony's Electronic Dice Bag.

Battle:
Attack Power(Atk): (-HP)=(Str+Wpn)(Lv/2)(Skill Lv) - (Target Def)
Hit%: (Hit%)=(Ag+Wpn%)(Skill LV)/(Target Ev%)
Defense(Def): (Def)=Ar+(Con2/3)
Evade%(Ev%): (Ev%)=(ArE+Ag+WepE)-(Assailant Hit%)

Example of Active Stats

Magic:
Magic Attack(MAt): Defines the power of attack and healing spells or the % chance of an effect hitting.
(MAt)=(Int2)/3
Magic Defense(Mdef): Allows you to lessen the effects of harmful spells and increase the effect of helpful ones. (Mdef)=(Wis2)/3
Magic Block%(MB%): Ability to stop magic altogether. Has no effect on beneficial spells and ability is halved on all-encompassing spells (Such as Meteo). (MB%)=(Int*Wis)/2

Healing:
Resistance(Res): Your ability to resist non-magical bad status such as Disease and Poison. I guess you could call it "Body Block%" Is dependent upon high Con.
Regeneration(Reg): Your ability to heal injury naturally. Low Reg cancause degeneration after wounding. Is based upon Con.

Movement:
Speed(Sp): Basic foot speed in yards per minute (Walk/Run). Average is 117/176. If Load is above Max, Speed is halved.
Agility(Ag): How quick you are at dodging attacks and such. Affects Hit% and Ev%. If Load is above Max, Aglity is halved. However, it is possible to drop things before battle (Such as extra weapons and armors). There is a chance that they be stolen, though.
Dexterity(Dex): How good you are with your hands. Really only affects Thieve's Abilities, so others can pretty much ignore this one.

Body:
Strength(Str): Affects Atk, Bashing, Lifting and Load capabilities.
Constitution(Con): Literally "What You're Made of". It means, in this game, how tough you are physically. Affects Def, Res, and Reg.

Mind:
Intelligence(Int): How smart you are. Affects MAt, MB%, Ing.
Wisdom(Wis): You may be smart, but can you use that knowledge? Wisdom determines how your intellect is used. It also affects what kind of deals you can get in certain places. Affects MDef, MB%
Ingenuity(Ing): How creative you are. Affects what ideas you have on pretty much everything. Very high levels of Ingenuity can yield greater Tech Points.
