History of
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by five phenomenalwomen who trail-blazed to establish a new organization dedicated to the tenets of Scholarship,Service, Sisterhood, and FinerWomanhood. To date, over 90,000 women worldwide have embraced those tenets and continue a legacy of 80 years of service.

Among other firsts, the Sorority was the first Greek-letter organization to charter a chapter in Africa (1948). Additionally, Zeta Phi Beta and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. were the first constitutionally bound brother-sister organization. And yet another Zeta milestone was being the first sorority to establish adult and youth auxiliary groups, namely the Amicae, the Archonettes, Amicettes,and Pearlettes.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. continues to strive towards excellence in providing service in the areas of education, economic development,health and human services, and the like. A community-minded,action oriented organization, Zeta Phi Beta will continue to reach out to all humankind worldwide.
