Barth Riley, Ph.D. My Professional Objective Presently, I am seeking an academic/research position in a medical rehabilitation setting. What's New See the links page for new web resources related to rehabilitation research and resources for persons with disabilities. Background I am completing my third year as a postdoctoral research fellowship funded by the National Institute of Health concerning the effect of estrogen replacement therapy on women aging with polio. My postdoctoral work is taking place at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Since 1996, my research has focused on women with disabilities, gender differences in chronic pain, neuropathic pain in persons with spinal cord injury, and long-term outcomes associated with spinal cord injury. My career objective is to seek a faculty position, particularly one in which I can continue to pursue my research interests. I enjoy writing poetry and have read my poems at several venues in the Ann Arbor area. Some of my poems have been published in local magazines and chapbooks, and eventually I hope to publish my work in book form. Travel is also a passion of mine, as I have seen much of the United States and Canada as well as parts of Europe. Along the way, I enjoy taking photographs of people and places I have seen, and using the photographs as the basis for watercolor paintings. Eventually, I plan to develop a web page featuring both my poetry and paintings. Besides traveling and my creative pursuits, I participate in various community-related projects as a member of a local volunteer organization.
