The Lonesome Dove Hotel

"Where only the best will do for the guests."

barbed wire

The Lonesome Dove Hotel, owned by Amanda Carpenter, is a beautiful two-story establishment in the middle of Curtis Wells, Montana. The former proprietor, Ida Grayson, changed the name of the hotel from "The Unity" to "The Lonesome Dove" in honor of her partner, Newt Call, in 1878. Amanda Carpenter bought the hotel with the help of Mr. Call in 1880. Amanda brings a vitality to the establishment, where fine dining, fine accomodations, and her fine company make the hotel the center of the town.

Security is no worry for her guests at the Lonesome Dove. Ms. Carpenter sees to the needs of her guests with an impenetrable safe box in the basement and her own six-shooter to scare off unruly guests.

And what FINE cooking! Mr. Newt Call sees to the eggs personally. A sample of the Lonesome Dove Hotel Menu is located below.

The citizens of Curtis Wells have their own personal favorite dishes.

If you want the exotic, that's no problem at the Lonesome Dove! Amanda provides you the stuffed head of a zebra. She says she got it at Boston, but who really knows for sure???

Located in Curtis Wells, in only-God-knows-where Montana, The Lonesome Dove Hotel is the perfect resting stop for your vacation or occupational needs. Telegraph or just stop by. Amanda or someone will kick out Call for your convenience.

The Lonesome Dove Hotel Menu

Provided by the finest Curtis Wells citizens, Amanda serves up some of the most delicious dishes in the whole territory.

Eric McCormack's Love Salad

Who is this guy, anyway?!? Anyway, this recipe was found somewhere in the kitchen. Mosby really liked it, so it became part of the menu!

Dressing:

Salad:

In a small bowl, whisk together oil, mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, mustard, Worcestershire, and garlic until blended. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Wash and dry lettuce thoroughly. Tear lettuce into pieces. Cut cucumber in half, lengthwise, and slice. In a salad bowl, combine lettuce, cucumber and onion. Drizzle with 1/2 cup of the dressing, or to taste. Sprinkle with feta and garnish, if desired, with tomatoes.
Thanks, Linda!

Josiah's Crazy Cake

This sure is the yummiest chocolate cake without eggs (sorry, Call) that anyone's ever tasted! Apparently Josiah got this recipe from some guy who worked for a guy named Simplot who had a fertilizer plant near Fort Hall, Idaho. Anyway, it sure is good!

Ingredients:

Mix the first five (dry) ingredients well. Then add remaining (wet) ingredients. Mix well. Pour into a 9 x 12-inch greased and floured pan. Bake at 350 F for 35 minutes or until done.

Aunt Arlene's Vanilla Frosting

We don't know who this is, but this woman may be related to our advertiser, Darcie. It compliments Josiah's Crazy Cake perfectly. Yummy!

Ingredients:

Mix shortening, salt, and vanilla in a large bowl. Mix in about 1/3 of the sugar (1 cup). Mix in a small amount of milk. Keep alternating with the sugar and milk until both ingredients are gone. Mix until fluffy and the frosting peaks.

The Colonel's Killer Sweet Potatoes

From the SWEET POTATO QUEENS books. Rich, decadent, and sinful ... like our Colonel!

Ingredients:

You should have 3 cups of mashed potatoes. Add sugar to taste (if the potatoes were in heavy syrup, 1/2 cup should be plenty). Blend in the rest of the ingredients, eggs last. Grease a 2-quart casserole, and pour potato mixture in.
Topping:

Mix thoroughly and sprinkle evenly over potatoes.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, or until the topping is browned and crunchy.
