LOYAL ORDER OF THE MOOSE INTERNATIONAL
My Husband and I are both members of the Loyal order
of the Moose (LOTM) (chapter 1199 )and the Women of the
Moose (WOTH)(chapter 459. Recently our younger son, Craig, also
joined our chapter. It is a great family organization!
Since joining this organization we have made many new
friends and have taken up some new activities we would
never have thought of before.
We are both now playing DARTS three times a week and
my husband is on their golf league ( he recently had his
first hole in one in a tourny too!!!)
In addition we are playing bingo and attending dinners, dances and other social events presented by the organization
I would like to tell you a little something about the Moose and
its programs.
There are over 1.6 million members making up the LOTM and WOTH (women of the Moose). There are 2,100 lodges and 1,600 chapters throughout the United States, Canada and Bermuda.
The headquarters for Moose International is located
38 miles from Chicago at Mooseheart,Il.
Members join the Moose for a various number of
reasons, including Family Activities, Community
Service projects,and member sports programs, just
to name a few.
While these activities offer each Moose member a
valid reason to join, the main endeavors of the
fraternity remain Mooseheart, the 1,200 - acre
Illinois home and school for children in need,
and Moosehaven, the 63-acre Florida retirement
community for senior members in need.
These residents, entrusted to the care and support
provided by membership in the Moose, are constant living
reminders of the humanitarian efforts of Moose
Ever since 1888, these men and women have been
proud to serve local communities and fellow members of the
fraternity known as the Moose.
The money rasied through the various functions held
throughout the year go to support and add to these
two centers
THE WOMEN OF THE MOOSE
Women of the Moose(originally termed the Women of
Mooseheart Legion) ( first started in 1913 and had
little power beyond the chapter level.
However after the 19th amendment went in to
effect Katherine Smith became Director of Public
Employment in Washington under President Harding.
Five years later she began her activities with the
WOTH and continued as its First Grand Chancellor
until she retired in 1964.
At that time the Women of the Moose boasted 250,000
members.and has since grown to more than 540,000,
in approximately 1,600 Chapters.)
