During our time in the UK, we used our friends' house in Oxford as a sort of home base. We loved Oxford and it's environs, and our friends gave all sorts of great advice on where to go, but somehow we missed getting a picture of our friends. Here are pictures of the places we went on their advice.
Below is the lovely town of Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds. Yes, there is an Upper Slaughter also. This area is teeming with public access footpaths that go through small towns and cross farms and fields. A very civilized way to walk.
We also visited the town of Bath, a city famous for it's waters, even to the ancient Romans. The first picture is of the river passing through town, the second is of the Victorian rebuild of the old Roman bath house. The water is supposed to be good for you, but its not very tasty.
We also visited the very impressive Warwick Castle, former home of the Earl of Warwick, nicknamed "Kingmaker." At one point in the 14th century he had two (2) rightful kings in his prison as hostages. Nice Guy. He was killed in battle, chopped to pieces, and distributed all over the country as a lesson to would-be troublemakers.
