LEVI'S STORY

Hi Everyone,

My name is Levi. Mom wanted me to tell you my story so that maybe you will help stop the cruelty that goes on in puppy mills.
The first things I remember were always being hungry and scared. I was taken away from my mother when I was only 3 1/2 weeks old. (I now know that I was too young to be taken from my mother. I had a lot to learn from her and needed her milk to help me grow up strong and healthy) My brothers, sisters, and I were placed in a small wire cage with all kinds of different puppies. The room we were in was dark and smelled real bad. Our cage was hardly ever cleaned. I lived here for about 2 weeks. When we were 5 weeks old, by brothers and sisters were all sold to a pet store. I stayed.

One day a man reached into the cage and pulled me out and handed me to a strange woman. I was terrified. I had never been held by someone before. The woman talked to me in a soft voice and lightly stroked my coat. She and her husband discussed whether they would get me or not. She told him that she couldn't leave me in here so they made the decision to bring me home.
On the ride home, the woman told me that she was my new mom and the man was my new dad. They seemed nice but I was still afraid of them. They gave me a bath when I got home and Mom cried as she got out the dried up dog mess stuck in my coat and cut my toenails that were almost an inch long. They would both hold and pet me but all I wanted to do was hide.
The next day they took me to the doctor. Doc Cindy looked me over and told Mom and Dad to return me cause she thought I had rickets. My parents talked it over and decided to run some tests to see if this was true. The tests showed a severe calcium deficiency. We went home with a liquid calcium supplement for me to take. Mom fed this to me in a bottle along with ground up puppy food cause my teeth were weak.
It took me a couple of months to realize that my parents weren't going to hurt me. After a while, I even started going to them to be petted. I loved getting the bottle from Mom. (I wish she would still give me one every now and then). It took 8 months for my bones to get strong. I broke my shoulder twice by bumping into the corner of the wall. Doc Cindy told Mom that I would have problems with my joints because of my poor start in life. I am 7 yrs old now and have a lot of problems in the winter getting around. My parents sometimes have to help me up the stairs when I come in from outside. I try not to let Mom see me limp cause it makes her cry.
I'm glad my parents decided to keep me. It took a long time for me to trust them, but now I love them lots.
If you decide to get a puppy, please don't get one from a pet store or go to the guy in the paper who is selling pups cheap. If people would stop buying from these places, then the awful person who had my parents would stop breeding dogs cause they wouldn't be making money. Puppies would not have to go thru what I've gone thru. Get your pups from people who really love their dogs and are breeding for the right reasons, or better yet get a rescue dog.
Well that's my story. Gotta go now.
Love,
Levi.

I'm so happy to display the award that was given to Levi. THANK YOU!!
