Enzo Francescoli began his career playing
in the team "Cadys
Juniors" in a baby football tournament where
he became the
maximun scorer. When he was 15 years old he
started playing
at the lower divisions of the Uruguayan team
Wanderers F.C.,
where he made his profess7ional debut in 1980.
Two years later
he was called by Omar Borrás the coach
of the Uruguayan
national team to be part of it. He played
the Nehru Cup in
India, and was champion scoring three goals.
In 1983, with
21 years old he was transferred to River Plate,
and started
his international career by making his debut
on April 24th
1983. In 1986 he went to the French team Racing
Matra, and
in 1989 he was transferred to the Olympique
du Marselle,
where he won the French local tournament.
Then he went
throught the Italian teams Cagliari in 1990
and Torino in
1993. The moment of his retirement was getting
near and
Enzo made a promise he was bound to fulfill,
to finish his
days as a football player with the team which
made a
champion of him for the first time in his
life, River Plate.
That's why he came back to Argentina, and
retired from
football at the top having won almost everything
he desired.
In 1986 the "Prince" left River with a score
to settle, the
Libertadores de América Cup, which
that team won without him.
Ten years later the Cup would be finally between
his hands,
and once again won by River Plate. Unfortunately
he was unable
to win the Intercontinental Cup because of
the goal scored
by the Juventus' player Alessandro Del Piero,
in Tokio.
An idol and an example in River, he gave his
magic away to win
three tournaments in a row for the third time
in the history
of the club from 1996 to 1997, and to win
the only cup the
millionaire was missing in its showcase, the
Supercup in 1997.
The last tournament he played was the Opening
1997, after
that he retired while he was still enjoying
the glory of
his conquests.
RIVER PLATE SHALL NEVER FORGET YOU PRINCE!!!
