Articles and Screenings From NPR's Sound of a Silent Star ~Quest for Sound Curator Jay Allison brings us Buster Keaton. Listener Bob Borgen has a tape of the silent film star at a party in 1962. Some friends gave him a ukelele and recorded his songs, stories and memories of Vaudeville.

Silent Clowns Film Series ~A monthly screening of a variety of silent comedians' work. Keaton is well represented, check for details. Highly recommended.

Eleanor Keaton, Buster's third wife passed away in October 98. She worked untiringly to ensure Buster would have his place in movie history and be remembered for the great comedian he was. She will be sadly missed. The Damfinos have a very fitting tribute on their site which is linked here.

Classic Images ~ November 1998's issue has an article by Patty Tobias, co founder of the Damfinos, dispelling some of the myths that have grown up around Keaton.

Keaton, the Man Who Wouldn't Lie Down ~ Dardis. This is the best of the still in print Keaton Biographies although far from perfect with its many inaccuracies. If you get a chance to acquire a copy of Blesh's "Keaton" grab it with both hands!

The Complete Films of Buster Keaton ~ Jim Kline. A filmography must for any Keaton or film buff. Full of photos.

Review

Now available "Keaton, Arbuckle and St John", It includes "Oh Doctor", a restored copy of a 1917 Arbuckle/Keaton short until recently unavailable. Plenty of footage of Buster smiling, laughing and crying in this one! "The Garage" and "The Boat" also the Arbuckle directed, Al St John short "The Iron Mule" a parody on a Keaton feature in which Buster had an uncredited cameo role. All have been digitally restored and are part ofThe Slapstick Encyclopaedia set from Kino Tape four.
