Biography

THEREZA CHRISTINA ROCQUE DA MOTTA, born in São Paulo in 1957, works as a lawyer, an English teacher and a legal and literary translator.

As her father was a Brazilian diplomat, she lived Boston, Asuncion, Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro and then moved to São Paulo in 1976.

She began her literary career publishing some of her poems in Análise, a college newspaper, in 1977, where she worked as a publisher in Mackenzie University until 1980.

In this same year, she founded Grupo Poeco - Só Poesia, a group of young poets, releasing several books together and organized the Mackenzie National Poetry Contest (1980 to 1982), made poem exhibitions and took part of several poetry readings from 1980 until 1992. Besides the anthologies, she has published five poetry books.

In 1995, she took part of Ponte Poética (Poetic Bridge), which gathered several poets living in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and of Poesia 96 (Poetry 96), a series of readings promoted by the State Secretary of Culture in São Paulo.

In 1999, she went back to Rio, where she actually takes part of weekly poetry meetings as Panorama da Palavra (Word Panorama), at the Margarida Rey Cultural House, organized by Helena Ortiz, Ponte de Versos (Verse Bridge), in the Wooden Bridge Bookstore, organized by Sady Bianchin and Espaço Caravelas (Caravel Gallery), with Cairo and Denizis Trindade, Eduardo Guerreiro, Edson Veoca, Victor Colonna and Marcello Rollemberg.
